| Cannot obtain any changes in STI results at different values of the background noise. Calculations at listener seats and probe. Each time get the highest value of the STI, the program apparently ignores noise settings. What's wrong? |

| Dear Arkie,
To account for background noise when performing Standard Mapping or AURA, make sure to mark the option "Consider Noise Levels" in the "Options" tab of the "View Calculation" window (results window that appears after performing a calculation). See picture below:
To account for background noise in Probe module, make sure to mark the option "Consider Noise Levels" in the "MTF/STI" tab of the "Options" window in Probe. See picture below:
Also, please make sure you are using the correct Noise Levels, also via Probe´s "Options" window.
Kind Regards,
Pedro Lima |

| Thank you, Pedro, for a prompt and detailed reply. This really helps me. You forgot one more place where we can switch the noise:
I believed that it's the only one. Does this override the noise settings in probe's options? Looks the same. |

| Hi Arkie,
Actually, you have asked me the places where one can activate/deactivate noise for the STI calculations. You do that by marking the check boxes above, depending on the module you are (Area/Room Mapping or Probe).
With respect to the Noise Levels definition, here is how it works:
- In the module "Edit Project", in "Edit" > "Room Data" you can define the standard noise levels for you project (picture below). These noise levels are remembered all the time you open Area/Room Mapping. When you perform changes in the Calculation Window in Area/Room mapping, these changes are only temporary and are not remembered once you close the module and reopen it later. So, usually the right place to define the noise levels is in the Room Data window.
- Probe module has its own noise levels, so you define them locally via "Options" > "Noise" tab. Which means that the Noise Levels in Room Data are ignored. This is desired because in this case, and if you want, you can define a different Noise Level curve for each seat and save it with the Response file. So, if you save a *.rsp file, EASE will remember the Noise Levels you defined in Probe next time you open that file.
HTH,
Pedro |
