I would recommend something with an Intel i7 CPU, >=8GB Memory, and Win7 64-bit

Hi Bruce, I bought a computer several months ago to run EASE. I remember EASE is a 32-bit application. Would it be matter to have a memory of 8Gb or more? Also, i7 is a multi core which was not compatible with EASE before (4.3.9?). Is EASE compatible with multi core now? The new computer I bought recently has i5 processor, 4Gb memory. It runs at the same speed with my i7 computer, and only using 1 core for al calculation. Thank you.

Hadi,

Yes EASE is a 32-bit application, but the 8GB recommendation is based on empirical tests I have done on a variety of machines. With 64-bit windows, both Vista and Win7, my machines burn about 2-2.5 GB for the OS, then use up to another 2GB for EASE. So 8GB seems to keep the swapping to disk to a minimum and the computer responsive. EASE has always been compatible with multi-core processors, my laptop from 2004 was hyper-threaded, then a little later was beaten by the first crop of dual-core machines.

Multi-threading support came to EASE in 2008 as a beta version of 4.3 and was released in 2009. Continuous improvements are being made to that including the new capability to use the AURA Cloud server with multiple multi-core computers running in parallel for quite significant speed improvements. On various projects I have seen all 8 cores on my big and fast machines being utilized 90-100% during calculations.
