Modeling directivity change from perf cinema screen |

| Has there been enough AES or SMPTE research done on the effect of perforated cinema screen material on directivity of speakers to be able to model the change in directivity for speakers mounted behind a screen? I know the effect changes with the spacing between the loudspeaker and the screen material, and the angle of incidence, so it would be nice to be able to model that effect in EASE. |

No studies of directivity that I know of have been done. |

| I believe that Altec did some polar measurements in the Ted Uzzle days with the Mantaray horns, and I think JBL did some measurements with various spacings between the horn mouth and the screen.
I recall that the centre HF hot spots were diffused and attenuated and the pattern edges of wide coverage horns dropped off as more sound was reflected from the screen (I imagine because the screen perf holes would only appear to be 0.7 of the diameter at a 45 degree angle of incidence). That would certainly explain why multicell horns worked quite well behind a cinema screen, the hot spots would be smoothed out. |
