| Hello,
So I'm using the EASE Evac to determine sound pressure levels in a parking deck and just wondering what the difference between the Direct SPL and the Total SPL options are. From what I've come to understand is that the Direct SPL is what the device outputs and assumes no reflection/reverberation from any surfaces. Essentially you put the device in the middle of a field and the Direct DPL gives us the radial sound pressures as you go further from the device.
On the other hand, the Total SPL will give the average SPL including the reflections from the surfaces and includes other devices in the calculation.
Please let me know if my understanding is correct or if I am way off. |

| Hello Joe,
You are generally right about the Direct SPL, but not quite about the Total SPL. You will find a lot of information and related references on chapter 4 (Room Acoustic Design) of EASE Evac User's Guide.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
