| Hi everyone,
this is a warning for everybody who uses the FireBox: Be sure you have switched off the 48V Phantom power befor you loop the output back to the MIC input to make a Referencefile or a Volume Calibration.
Otherwise you damage the output of the FireBox !!!
I think Presonus should eliminate this problem soon, because the output of such a Interface shold normally be resistant against Phantom Power ... or EASERA has to include a warning in the calibration procedure
Greetings

| Dear Tobi,
we have three FireBox models here. We just checked your finding, but we could not reproduce it. Neither of the three was damaged when measuring with the output looped back to the microphone input with phantom power on.
Please provide more details. Thank you!

| Hi Stefan,
the first thing I have done after the installation of my brand new FireBox, was muting the MIC 1 & 2 channel in the FireboxMixer. After that I wanted to measure a frequency response of a loudspeaker. I checked the soundcard with a poweramp and my speaker, and started a test signal. Everything fine. Afterthat I needed the ref. file of the FireBox, I turned the Mic gain and the Main Output down to disable clipping. I looped the main output (firebox) back to input MIC1. The 48V button was on. In the same moment I plugged in, all lights of the FireBox turned down, and EASERA crashed with a few error messages. After that the main output was damaged, no more sound came out.
I could not belive, so I have done the same with the Line Output 2. Now it is also damaged... very strange... |

| Hi Tobi,
we have forwarded this case to PreSonus and hope for an answer soon. Unfortunately we cannot reproduce it, and also we are not responsible for the HW support so you may want to turn to your PreSonus dealer.
We will post any news here as soon as we get them.

Hi Tobi,
Sorry to hear this. I have done this many times without a problem with my FireBox, so I am wondering what the difference is. Which connection did you make last? The XLR to the Mic input, or the 1/4" to the output. I have always had the output connected first, then plugged in the XLR for the input. |

| This is the response we received from PreSonus regarding the above issue:
"We had seen this on isolated units some time ago and had attributed it to a
particular brand of opamp. It's been several months if not over a year
since an ECO was issued to change brands and I don't know of any recurrence
of this problem. All the units you receive should have the acceptable brand
of opamp and I do not expect problems." |
