| Hi Stefan/Bruce,
I was just testing AURA for closed rooms and it works just fine.
However, it is unable to perform auralizations in open rooms.
Can EARS do this?
Thanks.

| Varun,
EARS is a tool for auralization purposes. AURA is a room-acoustic raytracing tool. You cannot compare these two.
To use AURA in open rooms:
A workaround is closing open rooms for simulation purposes. Create the missing surfaces and make them 100% absorbing.
But this method should be used with care. In the extreme, if you look at an open field, it does not make sense to estimate an RT this way.

| Hi Stefan,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll try closing the open room/s and see what happens.
However, can EARS auralize open rooms?
Thanks.
EDIT : I ended up using ray tracing impacts at about order 50 with 900000 rays. The simulation took 3 hours but it was worth it in the end. |

| Hi Varun,
Once you've generated an impulse response, either through Ray Tracing or the AURA module you will be able to auralize the file with EARS.
Note, if the room is truly open, like a field or a small open stadium, you can use the Auralize Direct Sound feature. This of course ignores any reflections, but will allow you to hear the effects of delayed loudspeakers, those covering grandstands on the opposite side of the field for example. This will take much less time than any of the ray tracing methods. |
